My boots slosh as I drag them through the thin layer of water covering the fractured cement floor, intermittent drips falling from the low pipes running along the hallway. Layers of dirt separate me from fresh air and the bitterness of the bright winter day, the heavy concrete just above my head barely keeping me from being buried alive as it strains under the weight. With nothing but an iPhone flashlight to light the way, dark passages separate from this main hallway. Occasional tricks of the light catch me off guard, making me jump. I must keep going though, exploring this bunker that's been here since the very time I would run through the grass and brush above, unaware of the maze underneath. I'd discovered a ventilation shaft years ago, a metal tube sticking out of the dirt, hinting at the existence of the deep and cavernous expanse of concrete chambers below.
